| | | Music | Home » » Rainy Day Music | | | | | | | Description: | | Somewhere inside Rainy Day Music beats the heart of a very fine folk-rock record. All chiming guitars and flawless falsetto, "Stumbling Through the Dark" captures the classic Jayhawks sound, and mid-tempo rockers "Tailspin" and "Eyes of SarahJane" recall older favorites like "I'd Run Away." "All the Right Reasons" floats on heavenly harmonies and "Save It for a Rainy Day" succeeds with nifty vocal interplay and a bright melodic hook. Yet, even with its share of jangle-pop gems, the disc also offers a few bland strummers that never quite take off. "One Man's Problem" boasts a catchy chorus but a dragging verse, and when chief songwriter Gary Louris hands the reins to drummer Tim O'Reagan or bassist Marc Perlman, the results suffer. The tasty pop treat "Angelyne" and an album-closing acoustic reprise of the opening track help redeem the disc's latter half, but in the end they only hint at how strong an album this might have been. --Anders Smith Lindall | | | Product Details: | | | Audio CD Release Date:

Remember WhenAug 02, 2008 ... you were a kid and you wait all year for summer vacation. Then it finally comes and zoom it flies by SO fast. Life has a way of flyin by faster than any ole summer vacation. So anyway here i am suddenly 49yo, I grew up in the vinyl album glory years 60's & 70's. I have always had lots of albums from vinyl, 8 track, cassette (the worst), and now CD. This is one of the best albums ever made. If the Jayhawks were around in 1976 they would have been right between the EAGLES and CSNY in popularity and sales. But alas today they are buried under the great talents of Britney, Jessica Simpson and 50 Cent. So sad, anyway if you love classic rock, if you love singer songwriters with talent and if you love great harmony with thoughtful lyrics, you can't go wrong with this album. I been exposing people to its charms for years, then they tell me they cant find a CD anywhere LOL. So sad, find one buy it and enjoy one of the best ever made.

simply beautiful.Apr 11, 2008 just a beautiful little album. my boyfriend bought it for me last spring, and I'm still in love with it. lovely melodies, simple but beautiful harmonies, country twinged guitar. not a single song on it that I would skip.
definitely recommended for fans of Wilco (and check out Golden Smog if you like Wilco AND the Jayhawks-- it's a combo-side-project.) and other modern folk-y artists.

One of the best everDec 29, 2007 There are few albums by any musicians that reward repeated listenings as much as this one. Almost every song here is a tuneful well-crafted gem. Tampa to Tulsa may be the one I find myself inadvertantly singing more often than any other, but Stumbling Through the Dark and several others are also masterpieces of songcraft. It's a tragedy that the Jayhawks never got the commercial success that they merited. If music this good can't win, then the radio industry and the music companies just have failed us.

Excellent and so easy to listen to!May 14, 2007 I've been hearing Jayhawk songs for a couple of years now and finally bought this CD for 'Tailspin'. It's a great. I was on a long drive recently and had Rainy Day Music playing. The sun was out, the windows down and it was the most relaxed I've felt in a long time. These guys can write and sing like no one's business. I plan on buying more of their music.
