"Tomorrow the Green Grass", as Indicated by the Hopeful Title, Brings it all Back Home to Simple Pleasures, Radiant Down-home Joys and Universal Fears. It is Apparent from the Initial Acoustic Strums that this is an Album that Concentrates on Music, Not Trends. This Minnesota-based Band Combines the High Lonesome Aspects of Bluegrass with the Rough-edged, Pining Soulfulness of Burrito Brothers/Gram Parsons Country-rock and the Spirit of Modern Rock. The Jayhawks Bind it all Together with Off-centre Harmonies, Infectiously Strong Melodies and a Powerful Narrative Sensibility. Whether the Subject is Suicide, Unabashed Love, Hopelessness, Child Abuse Or the Unbridled Love the Band Has for Victoria Williams (Who is Married to Jayhawk Mark Olson), it is Presented with Spunk and Verve. Sometimes Sounding Vaguely R.e.m.-ish, The Tracks Often Portray a Pained Passion. | | | Product Details: | | | Audio CD Release Date:

A TravestyApr 28, 2010 There is absolutely no reason why this album should be out of print. None. This album is timeless. It's gorgeous. It sounds like dreams lost and dreams recovered. It's sheer perfection.
Another step forwardJun 05, 2007 If the band were allowed to record this the way they performed these songs in concert, it would have sold more. A terrific step forward with a band improved by the addition of piano player and a drummer who both can contribute wonderful vocal harmony to the "univoice" harmonies of leaders Olson and Louris. A little bit of overproduction makes the sound a tad dense at times, but that is really a minor consideration, as the songs are well-written and arranged.
The title song "Tomorrow The Green Grass" could have fit nicely amongst the tracks on the album that bears its name, but you have to buy "National Lampoon's Senior Trip" Soundtrack CD to get that song, along with 'Darling Today' from the soundtrack to the film "Blown Away".

The Jayhawks - Contains Their Best Song "Blue"Jun 04, 2007 If I remember correctly I first came to notice the Jayhawks after hearing the single from this album, the opening track "Blue". It is still a favorite of mine and one of the best songs this band has ever done. Most Jayhawks fans tend to rate "Hollywood Town Hall" over this album, but for me I think I like this one a bit better. The music is still roots rock Americana with maybe a bit more country influence this time around. Along with "Blue" other highlights include, "I'd Run Away", "Miss Williams Guitar", "Nothing Left To Borrow", "Ann Jane" and the album closer "10 Little Kids". Jayhawks albums never blow me away, but I do like them for what they are. This is another strong effort if you are a fan of this genre of American music.

Best of the JayhawksMar 20, 2007
Sweetly chagrined rock and romantically whimsical alt, the Jayhawks finest CD.

Superb!Jan 23, 2007 in 10+ years since hearing a couple of fine tracks off the Jayhawks 'Tomorrow the Green Grass' upon its release in '96, i realised i never got around to buying it (now a v. difficult opus to track down here in Australia). Since it arrived the other day from US (via Amazon) i haven't stopped playing it, & the tunes have stuck in my head since. Not merely a 'country' tinged album, the songs hold more to their basis than first appears, as do their musical arrangements. It has easily withstood the test of time hearing it again now...what some may term classic...but i simply term, damn fine!
